Preview - Navigating Social Media Legal Risks: Safeguarding Your Business

Posted on by Ben Rothke

I received a copy of Navigating Social Media Legal Risks: Safeguarding Your Business last week and only had time to start and read the first chapter.  The first chapter deals with contests and sweepstakes; and no, they are not synonymous.

A few days later, I got an invite on Facebook.

Suffice to say, that giveaway is neither a contest nor sweepstakes, rather a scam. By knowing how to run a legimate contest, one can also easily determine how the above invitations are being run by swindlers.

With that, Navigating Social Media Legal Risks: Safeguarding Your Business is a fascinating book that shows how easy it is for well-meaning organizations, to use social media, albeit in ways that may violate various laws.

The book calls itself a plain-English business guide to avoiding social media legal risks and liabilities, written by an attorney, but written specifically for non-attorneys.

This looks to be an invaluable resource for any organization using social media that wants to stay on the right side of the law.

Full review to follow.
